Today I have the pleasure of welcoming Jennifer Snyder to the blog for a Behind the Gate Interview. Jennifer is the author of the Marked Duology, Touch, Shattered Soul, and the upcoming The Unloved.
1) You write both YA paranormal romance and YA contemporary romance, how are they different for you to write?
There are a lot of differences for me. One major thing that really stands out is the depth of emotion and feeling I'm able to put into my contemporary works verses paranormal. I feel like because there is nothing supernatural happening in them I'm able to focus strictly on the emotions of the character without interruption. With my paranormal works I tend to become lost in the supernatural elements more than anything.
2) Your new book The Unloved is releasing soon, what can you tell everyone about it?
I don't want to say too much, but at it's core it's about relationships. The ones that are bad for you, the ones that are good for you, and the ones that change you forever. You can head over to my blog for the blurb and I'll be announcing it's official release date soon!
3) What is your favorite part about being an author?
Oh gosh, everything! I love being an author! If I had to narrow it down though, I'd have to say emails from the readers. I haven't received many, but the few that I have I cherish. Reading an email from someone who read your words and resonated with a character on an intense level or was able to become so completely engrossed in the story that they forgot their troubles and problem, if only for a few hours. That's priceless.
4) What do you do when you are not writing?
When I'm not writing I'm a stay at home mother of two. I'm bouncing my kidos from activity to activity in our small town, cleaning my house, cooking, laughing, reading, walking my Boston Terrier, and striving to just be in the moment with my family.
5) What are some of your favorite books and what do you look for in a good book?
This is the place where I should put old classics, right? Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights. I have tried and tried to read them but cannot get into them to save my life! Horrible, I know. My favorites include Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice and Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. As for what I look for in a good book, an escape. If I can stand at my kitchen counter reading while cooking and my dinner burns because I'm so lost in the story I forget about it...that's a good book to me. Not that I've done this before or anything. ;)
6) If you found a hidden gate in your backyard, where would it lead to?
Hmmm...I'd have to say some tropical paradise. White sands, sparkling turquoise waters, giant palm trees, and no other people. I'd drag a lounge chair through the gate, a good book, and plop my butt down to read until my hearts content.
7) Tell us four random things about yourself.
I like peanut butter on my pancakes. Running through the rain always makes me smile. Every room in my house has some element of Feng Shui going on. I would love to one day write a wickedly original zombie novel.

ReplyDeleteI loved Jennifer's Shattered Soul, but haven't had a chance to check out any of her paranormal works. And I'm definitely looking forward to The Unloved.
